Piers Alexander Cockburn
The parents of Piers were both Scottish born and emigrated to South Australia (arriving ca 1875-76)after marriage in 1875. Piers was born 16 May 1876 in South Australia.
His father Sir John Alexander Cockburn KCMG MD was Premier of South Australia, 1889-1890.

Piers Alexander Cockburn the son of John Cockburn was a farmer in South Australia. At 41 years old, he made the life-altering decision to enlist, leaving behind the familiar fields for a new battlefield.
On March 7, 1917, he enlisted as a Private in the 50th Infantry Battalion's 10th Reinforcement, documenting as 3622. Piers embarked aboard the HMAT Themistocles with ten other reinforcements, designed for a scene of combat far from his familiar fields.
He survived the war and settled in Norwood, resuming civilian life. Piers Alexander Cockburn died on January 20, 1953, in Norwood, South Australia.
