Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Private Bertram Moore (Service No:159) enlisted in the AIF on 14 September 1914, and was attached to 9th Light Horse Regiment on 12 February 1915 when he embarked with his Unit from Melbourne for Gallipoli on board HMAT A26 Armadale. Trooper Moore was WiA at Walkers Ridge on 15 July 1915 - he was in the trenches when a shell explosion caused sandbags to fall on his foot. Following unsuccesful surgery in Heliopolis, Trooper Moore embarked from Suez for Melbourne on 15 November 1915 on board HT Borda, and was attached to 9th Light Horse Regiment at Discharge in Adelaide on 13 March 1916 - Medically Unfit.

Bert (Bertram Joseph) was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1896, the only child of Samuel George Moore (b1873 in Meadows, South Australia) and Hannah Elizabeth Moore (b1870 in Meadows, South Australia). In 1903, Hannah married Frank Edward Levitzke (b1867 in Klemzig, South Australia) and lived in Burnside, where Frank was a Carter.

Bert worked as a Labourer in Burnside, and listed Hannah as his Aunt when he enlisted in the AIF in 1914. Following his Discharge, Bert returned to Adelaide, working in Marion and Burnside as a Labourer. In 1923 in Adelaide, he married Grace Annie Roberts (b1893 in Malalla, South Australia). Bert and Grace settled in Quorn, Port Augusta where they raised their family and Bert was a Publican/Hotelkeeper (Criterion Hotel). Bert died in 1946 and Grace in 1983.
