Enlisted and signed Attestation Paper as Douglas

His father died in 1906, when he was 18 years of age. Douglass’ widowed mother wrote on his roll of honour circular, “He was killed in France, and I myself would like to know the place. His brother Dougal McDougall 18th Battalion was killed in action in France 5 November 1917".

Douglass actually went missing at Messines in Belgium, and his brother near Ypres later in the year.
