Biography

Mervyn Ernest HAZEN was born on 13.1.1894 in Rutherglen, Victoria

His parents were Robert Alfred HAZEN and Ellen Jane WARE

He enlisted on 7th August 1915 with the 21st Battalion - S/N 5341

Unit embarked from Melbourne on board HMAT Themistocles on 28th July, 1916

He had previously served with the CMF for 3 & a half years with the 58th Infantry

He died of wounds on 21st March, 1917 in France

Mr. & Mrs. R HAZEN of Yarrawonga have been informed that their eldest son Private Mervyn HAZEN had died of wounds received in France

Private Hazen who was about 22 years of age was a skilled athlete and one of the districts leading footballers
