Les Reardon enlisted with his brother Claude in the 12th Battalion. He was buried by an trench collapse under heavy shellfire at Mouquet Farm. His brother was present and helped to try and dig him out. He was reported as missing for almost 12 months.
His remains were found by the Commonwealth War Graves during 1936, almost 20 years after his death, and confirmed by the discovery of his identity disc which was returned to Australia for the family.
