Commenced return to Australia on 30 January 1918 aboard HT Euripides disembarking on 23 March 1918 at Melbourne for onward travel to Hobart

On 18 June 1919 John married Elsie Olive Chatters in St Peter's Church, New Norfolk, Tasmania.
