William Hollands enlisted on 2 October 1916. The unit Hollands served in was the 1, 2 and 3 Auxiliary transport companies and 1 to 4 Reinforcements.
He embarked on 22 December 1916 from Melbourne, Victoria, on board the HMAT A34 PERSIC.
He was wounded in action on the field in France on the 24/11/1917. He was injured with a gunshot wound in the back, he soon returned to duty after the injury was healed.
Hollands returned to Australia on the 13th July 1919.
