Son of John Kennedy Smith and Annie Lavinia Smith, of Bairnsdale, Victoria
Lieut. Leslie Kennedy, son of Mr and Mrs J. Kennedy Smith, Bairnsdale, was killed in France on the 25th September last. He was a native of Bairnsdale, and 28 years of age. He enlisted in Melbourne in July, 1915, and sailed in August of the following year. He spent a year training troops at Salisbury, Plain, leaving for France in July last. Before enlisting he was employed at the head office of the Bank of Australasia, Melbourne. He was of good physique, and was 6ft. 4in. in height. He was well known in sporting circles, and before leaving Bairnsdale was a member of the first eighteen of the football club. At South Yarra, where he engaged in lawn tennis playing he won the third pennant ini 1914. He was a popular bass singer and won several prizes in competitions.
