Son of W. George and Agnes Whiteoak of 'Hillview', Cawley Street, Preston, Victoria; brother of Percy Robert Whiteoak MM who returned to Australia on 6 June 1918 after serving with the 6th Field Ambulance
Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal
Also served in Senior Cadets for 2 years; 8 months in 28th Light Horse Regiment, and was still serving in the Citizen Military Forces at the time of enlistment
Served a 6 year apprenticeship with J. Moore & Son, Timber Merchants of South Melbourne
