Morton Beswick enlisted at the age of 18 and was wounded in action when he was shot in the foot on the 9 May 1917. He was evacuated to England and spent 6 months there recovering. He was killed in action near Heilly, France, on 28 March 1918 during the German Spring Offensive of March – May 1918. He had a brother serving in the 40th Battalion with him, 136 Pte Basil Beswick, DCM MM who returned to Australia in 1919.
An older brother 1246 Pte Leslie James Beswick, 26th Battalion, had been killed in action at Gallipoli, 18 November 1915.
