Arthur Marden Grant was born in Bulla, Victoria in 1884. He had a diploma from Dookie College and was a Head Teacher for 2 years before joining the army. He had 3 brothers, a mother(Catherine Jane Grant) and father(William Fraser Grant). One of his brothers was 3348 Sergeant Harold Bruce Grant and was in the 2nd Australian Pioneer Battalion. Harold enlisted on 01/06/1916 and was 24 years and 5 months old. Arthur enlisted on 23/02/1916 at the age of 31 years and 6 months.

Arthur's unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on 12 August 1916. He suffered from laryngitis in January 1917 but finally reached the 32nd Battalion in February. In May 1917 he was transferred to the 29th Battalion, and on 28/05/1917 he was promoted to Lieutenant.

Arthur Grant was killed in action on 26/07/1917 at Polygon Wood, Belgium. There is no known grave but he has memorials at the following places, Adelaide National War Memorial, Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, Bulla War Memorial, Menin Gate Memorial (Commonwealth Memorial to the Missing of the Ypres Salient), Sunbury War Memorial.
