Son of Henry Vinning and Annie Vinning nee Stringer of Yinnar, Victoria formerly of Dunedin and Invercargill, NZ.
Brother of John Henry Vinning (Vining) who returned to Australia on 4 September 1918 having served with the 4th Divisional Signal Company.
On 5 June 1919 Alfred married Queenie Mary Kowin in the Church of Holy Apostles, St George, England
Commenced return to Australia on 25 October 1919 aboard HT Orontes disembarking on 6 December 1919
