Relationship

Albert Ernest Lefroy Eddy was my great-uncle, a brother to my grandfather. My father was raised by their sister and her husband and took his name (Herbert). My grandmother often spoke of her favourite brother Albert and kept many memorabilia that belonged to him, including his school books from Lefroy Grammar School, a copy of Webster's International Dictionary in which he had done some art-work, a pencil portrait of Prince Albert which he had done on a handkerchief, two large water-colours of Mt Vesuvius as it erupted in 1906 which he had painted. I still have all these articles (and perhaps more), as well as the Family Bible which belonged to his mother, inscribed "Mary Eddy, Lefroy, Tasmania, 1883".
The family in Tasmania had lost contact with Albert before the war and it was said that he had "gone off to see the world". I have since discovered that he was an ANZAC, a member of the 6th Light Horse Regiment and travelled to the war on the Suevic. He spent his final years in Perth WA, where he died in 1951 following an accident at his home. I have no knowledge of his adventures during the intervening years.
