He was 32 and the son  of the late William and Margaret Birkett.

He is remembered on the Muncaster War Memorial. Muncaster is situated close to the Cumbria coast next to Ravenglass. The parish church is in the grounds of Muncaster Castle. The war memorial is to be found in the form of a plaque within the church.
