Sergeant NORMAN RAY WATTS, son of Mrs. F. Watts, of Littlehampton, who was previously reported missing, was killed in action on April 11. Sergeant Watts left with the 16th Battalion, and was in the landing at Gallipoli. He was twice wounded at Gallipoli, and after the evacuation went to France, and was again wounded. He returned to France on December 14, 1916, and remained till he was killed. He was 22 years of age, and will be missed by a large circle of friends, by whom he was much liked. He was a good athlete, and took an active part in sports. His younger brother, Private Jack Watts, is serving in France.

Norman Roy Watts was born in 1894 in Littlehampton South Australia. His parents’ names were Luke and Francis Watts. He enlisted as a Private on the 13th of November 1914 and he embarked from Melbourne on the ship Ceramic on the 22nd of December 1914. He fought in Egypt, Gallipoli and the Western Front. He was badly wounded while fighting in Bullecourt France and died on the 11th of April 1917. He was buried in the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery.

He received the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. He is on the Roll of Honour at the War Memorial (Panel 81) and is named on the plaque at the Mt Barker War Memorial.
