Add my storyBiography contributed by Stephen Brooks
Son of Jeremiah and Bridget Mahony. A native of Taminick, Glenrowan, Victoria, Australia.
Francis joined up with the 1st Battalion AIF but transferred to the 101st Howitzer Battery of the 1st Australian Field Artillery Brigade during September 1916. His brother Michael Alepius Mahony was a Sergeant in the same unit.
In his Red Cross file his brother Michael states he was with Francis on the day he was badly wounded on 29 November 1916. His dugout was hit by a shell. He was taken away to a dressing station but died two days later.
Sergeant Michael Mahony would later win the MM and was several times seriously wounded, before being returned to Australia medically unfit.
