Hurtle Sylvester Jeanes

H.S. [Hurtle Sylvester] Jeanes was the cousin of my mother-in-law Maud Randell, born Jeanes. He was born in 1883, probably in Port Adelaide, son of Isaac Jeanes , draper and hotel keeper, who arrived in Adelaide in 1856. His mother was Fanny Jane Harris.

In 1900, he enlisted for the Boer War as a trooper/trumpeter. He left Port Adelaide on 9 February 1901 and returned on 27 April 1902.

He enlisted in Tasmania to serve in the 3rd Light Horse, and returned to Australia on 15 November 1918.

He probably moved to Queensland, and may have worked as a photographer near Bowen in 1921. He apparently left no descendants.
