Son of Alfred Benjamin Summersford and Sarah Summersford nee Collins of 66 St David Street, Ftizroy, Victoria.

Brother of Alfred Benjamin Summersford who was killed in action on the 17 April 1917 while serving with the 22nd Battalion and is buried in the Noreuil Cemetery, Arthur George Summersford, Elsis May Summersford, Florence Sarah Summersford, Lucy Days Summersford,  Ruby May Summersford and William James Summersford who returned to Australia on 17 September 1915 having served with the 14th Battalion. Wiliam died in Adelaide in 1953 and is buried is the West Terrace Cemetery
