Son of Thomas Gosden and Janet Gosden nee Patterson of Eudunda, SA. Brother of Thomas Gosden who died of wounds on 7 September 1918 while serving with the 25th Battalion, Kate Blaw Gosden, Ruth Gosden, Hiram Bailey Gosden who returned to Australia on 19 July 1919 having served with the 32nd Battalion, Marion Sharpe Steel Gosden and  Matthew Alexander Gosden
