Son of George and Margaret GROVER, Beverley, Western Australia
GROVER-In loving memory of my darling boy, Private Percy Robert Grover, 16th Battalion who died whilst a prisoner of war in Germany on May 23, 1917, aged 22 years and 2 months.
One year has passed, one heart is sore,
I have lost my life companion.
A life linked with my own,
As time goes on I miss you more.
Your loving smiles and happy face,
There is no one else can fill your place.
As I walk through life alone.
When we said good-bye on the troopship, dear Percy,
Your heart was full of hope and your spirit so high.
Little did we think in life our hands would clasp no more,
Nor did we know the grief and sorrow the future held in store.
How much sadder would have been our parting
Had we known when you left me that day that you would never return.
Had I only been there before your eyes closed in death
To whisper you one comforting word.
Without one loved one near you you died like a hero
To save those who loved you dear.
I prayed for God to guide you but He claimed you.
