John arrived in Australia from London, England during 1908 aboard the ship Banffshire disembarking at Townsville, QLD and was naturalised on 22 September 1915. He was the son of Lars Vidlund and Clare Vidlund of Stockholm, Sweden. 

Next of kin was given as unmarried wife Amy Mearns nee Gregg C/- Mrs Louisa Berndtsson, St George Street off Ipswich Road, Brisbane, QLD. John and Amy married on 9 November 1927.

Commenced return to Australia on 4 March 1919 aboard HT Port Sydney disembarking on 11 April 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Brisbane.
