4 Oct 1917: | Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 6026, 1st Infantry Battalion, 2nd Passchendaele , William received a gunshot wound to the left eye during action and was admitted to 41 Casualty Clearing Station and then to 24 General Hospital, Etaples, France. He was further repatriated to England as his eye was removed and his war could have been over, however he elected to continue to serve, and when he was fully fit he transferred to Australian Army Medical Corp and continued to contribute to the war. |
