Son of Elizabeth Hill of Market Street, Melbourne, Victoria. Elizabeth signed a statuatory declaration stating she was John's mother however John had previously declared that his parent were deceased

Next of kin given as his brother William O'Donnell of Station Street, Highett, Victoria.

Commenced return to Australia on 7 July 1919 aboard HT Chemnitz disembarking on 5 September 1919
