Baron Victor Law was born in Fairford Gloucestershire in 1895. The family moved to Australia in 1902. Baron was educated at Fremantle Boys School, and he served a 4-year apprenticeship with A. Meikle of Fremantle. He also served for three years with the 86th Infantry in Fremantle. He enlisted on the 28.9.14 at Blackboy Hill and was 19 years old, a hairdresser, and gave his denomination as Church of England. Baron’s father was Ernest Ashford Law and his mother, Rachel Victoria Law of 95 Mary St, Fremantle.  He was described as being 5 feet 6 inches tall, with 31-34 inches chest measurement, dark complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. He was allocated Service number 1143 with the 11th Infantry Battalion, embarking at Melbourne on HMAT Themistocles A32. Baron was wounded in action in the Dardanelles on 2.5.16 and admitted to hospital in Alexandria with a gunshot wound to his right arm. He returned to Gallipoli on 1.6.15.  On the 15.8.1915 he was appointed Lance Corporal and temporary Corporal on 17.9.15.  The position was confirmed on the 25.11.15, and he was promoted to Sergeant on the 7.12.15. On the 22.7.1916 he was killed in action at Pozières. His body was never found, but he is remembered on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial.
