Served during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery, not forgotten.
41 years ago today, on the 7th November 1980, Private Raymond Edmond, 4th Battalion (Reg No-65973), grocer from Glebe Road, Adamstown, New South Wales and 2 Fourth Street, Boolaroo, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 83. METHODIST 4-31. 32.
Born at Adamstown, New South Wales on the 11th July 1897 to John Thomas and Agnes J Edmond; husband of Amelia Parker Edmond nee Wilson (married 1928, Adamstown, N.S.W., died 1999, sleeping here), Raymond enlisted July 1918 with the 16th to 27th (NSW) Reinforcements at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Suffering no wounds or illness, Raymond returned home September 1919, being discharged on the 8th October 1919.
Did not receive Victory Medal.
Mr. Edmond’s name has been inscribed on the Adamstown Citizens' Memorial (photos, unveiled on the 17th December 1921, 233 names inscribed, 32 Fallen), Adamstown Municipal District Roll of Honor and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.
I will place poppies and a 1914-1918 WAR label at Raymond’s gravesite to honour his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

My Grandfather was one of eight boys, and his father John Thomas Edmond and his Grandmother Bridget Edmond were the two of the few survivors of the shipwreck SS Dandenong off Jarvis Bay.
Raymond and Amelia lived all their married life at 2 Fourth Street Boolaroo, where he worked at and managed the Boolaroo Co-op Store.
He also worked part time in his senior years at TC Friths until he retired at 79 years of age.
He had two daughters, Elma Edmond and Lynette Edmond, and three Grandchildren, Stuart, Kathryn and Susan. Raymond lived long enough to hold Sarah (Stuart's daughter) the first of his four great grandchildren.
My Grandfather was an amazing man, keen fisherman, highly respected in the community and was a Deacon at the Boolaroo Methodist Church.
Mr. Edmond died from Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease.
