Alfred George Life Story

Alfred George Farnham was born in Hastings, Susses, England in July 1885 to Junia and Isobella Farnham. He was one of six children.
He immigrated to Australia in 1910 arriving on the passenger ship “Otranto” in Sydney NSW on 21st July 1910.
He met and married Margaret Prewer in Sydney in 1911.
They moved to Hobart, Tasmania where they had a son named Jack Alfred Farnham. Unfortunately, Margaret passed away on the 19th February 1915
He then married Clara Louisa Kearney in late 1915 in Hobart.
His occupation prior to joining the Armed forces in 1917 is listed as a salesman.
He joined the 3rd Light Horse Regiment, 34th Reinforcements in Hobart on the
12th November 1917 with the rank of Private. His enlistment number was 3751.
His unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board RMS Ormonde on 7th March 1918.
Whilst stationed in Egypt, Alfred came down with malaria and was hospitalised in Port Said.
He received both the British War medal and the Victory medal as the completion of war service.
After the war Alfred moved to Victoria
1919. Lived firstly at 63 Park street South Yarra.
1924 is shown in the electoral rolls as living in Heatherton road Noble Park and working as a salesman.
1927. Alfred and Clara on the electoral rolls show the address as 100 100th Street Mildura.
He divorced Clara shortly after this period.
Later he married Stella Elizabeth Bartlett nee Sutton. Stella and John Bartlett had six children. They remained happily married until his death.
1931 he lived briefly at Dalyston near Wonthaggi and then he moved to Hallora near Drouin where he farmed until he retired.
Alfred George Farnham died in September 1947 in Brunswick and is buried at Fawkner cemetery. Alfred was aged 62 years old.
