Son of Robert Venus and Elizabeth Venus nee Green of Launceston, Tasmania

Husband of Eleanor Edith Venus nee Hawson of Main Road, Newtown, Tasmania. On 17 May 1913 Hedley married Eleanor in Argyle Street, Hobart, Tasmania.

Born 20th January 1885 Launceston Tasmania the son of Robert Ernest and Mary Elizabeth Gordon (nee Green) married to Eleanor Edith Hanson a cabinet maker he embarked Melbourne 8th February 1916 on board “HMAT Warilda” with the 12th Infantry Battalion. 

He was killed in action 25th June 1916 in France and is commemorated in the Rue-Petillon Military Cemetery, Fleurbaix, Bethune, France. 

A few weeks ago the relatives received notification of the death, in action, of Sergeant Hedley Venus, of New Town. Mrs. Venus has now received the following letter from the Base Records Office. Melbourne: -  

''With reference to the report of the regrettable loss of your husband, the late No. 4618, Sergeant Hedley Venus, 12th Battalion, I am now in receipt of advice which shows that he was killed in action in France on the 25th June, 1916, and was buried in Eton Hall Cemetery, Rue Petition, 2 1/2 miles east of Lavontine, four miles S.W. of Armentieres ; reference to map sheet 36   square N.3.1.3.3. These additional details are furnished by direction, it being the policy of the department to forward all information received in connection with deaths of  members of the Australian Imperial Force."
