1 Aug 1915: | Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 1394, 11th Infantry Battalion, William arrived in the Dardanelles as part of reinforcements in May 1915. On 1st August 1915 he was admitted to the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station with bullet wounds to both legs (gun shot wound to left calf and right thigh). After receiving treatment he was sent via hospital ship first to Alexandria and then to Heliopolis where he disembarked on 6th August 1915 and was admitted to the 2nd General Hospital, Ghezireh. On 23rd September 1915 he was invalided to England where he was admitted to the Military Hospital at New End, Hampstead. In December 1915 he was awarded 144 hours of detention for being absent from the hospital from 5pm to 9pm and breaking into the hospital by scaling walls. After 62 days in hospital, William was discharged on 6th December 1915. |
