Driver William Henry Bond (Service No:3299) enlisted in the AIF on 28 July 1915 and was a Sapper attached to 6th Field Coy Engineers when he embarked from Sydney on 24 November 1915 on Board HMAT A40 Ceramic. Driver Bond served with 6th and 12th Field Coy Engineers in France and embarked from Devonport for Melbourne on 5 April 1919 on board HT Armagh. Driver Bond was attached to 12th Field Coy Engineers at Discharge on 10 July 1919.

Born in Dimboola, Victoria in 1890, Bill was fifth of seven children of James Bond (b1848 in Miiddlesex, England) and Esther Jones (b1853 in Nairne, South Australia). James immigrated in 1857, arriving in Portland, Victoria on board the Mary Jane. He was a Farmer in the Wimmera in 1880 when he and Esther married in Horsham. They lived in Dart Dart and Dimboola where they raised their family and James was a Labourer.

Bill was a Fruiterer in Dimboola before enlisting in the AIF and, following his Discharge, in 1921 in Gerang Gerung married Margaret (Maggie) Alicia Haines (b1890 in Dimboola). Bill and Maggie lived in Dimboolla and Antwerp via Dimboola where they raised their family and Bill was a Fruiterer/Storekeeper. Maggie died in 1966 and Bill in 1978.
