Biography contributed by Evan Evans

From Craig Barwick

I'm tracing my Great Grand Uncle Pte James Russell Barker, who died in 1918 France during WW1. He was born 11 April 1898, Cleveland, Tasmania to Robert & Mary Jane Barker. He was killed in action 31/08/1918 near Clery Sur Somme. There is a notation on his war records about burial, ( 500 yards north of Clery Sur Somme and 3400 yards west of Alaines, I assume this may have been a trench grave ? I am unable to find if this site was exhumed and the bodies moved to another cemetery, not sure if anyone can help. I have one photo, which in itself is probably lucky, of him . A group photo taken at a rifle competition at Querrieu Chateau Grounds, probably during training, he is back row, 2nd from left.
