"...1640A Private Eli Frederick Brown, 48th Battalion of Pekina, SA. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Brown embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements from Adelaide on HMAT Aeneas on 11th April 1915. He was awarded the Military Medal for 'gallantry and devotion to duty' at Albert on 5th April 1918. On 5th May 1918 Pte Brown was killed in action and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial." - SOURCE (www.awm.gov.au)

Was a local person to the Orroroo district but originally from Pekina. He was an average height for a male being 5-foot 9 or 175 inch with brown hair and brown eyes and weighed 136lbs or 61kg, with a fair complexion. Elis dad was Mr. John Brown who may have lived in Gawler blocks. Eli's mum was called Eliza brown who lived at First Avenue St Peters.
Eli was a laborer before the war as a farm hand. He was not married when he got sent to war at the age of 21 and 5 months. Eli spent his life around Orroroo and Pekina as a laborer at the age of 21 until he got called up to join the war.
Eli was enlisted on the 18th of February 1916. Eli's service number was 1644 and the ship he embarked on was called the HMAT Aeneas A60. He embarked in Adelaide on the 11-4-1916 he was a private throughout the war and died in action in France on the 3 of May 1918 from a gunshot in his head as he was crouching next to some machine guns.
