MR. WILLIAM FLANAGAN
The death occurred at Caulflield
Military Hospital on Friday last, June
17, at the age of 45 years, of Mr.
William Martin Flanagan, of Corowa.
About three months ago he underwent
an operation, but his complaint was
such that medical care could not save
him.
Deceased was a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. James Flanagan of Corowa,
and was born in Wangaratta, While
employed as a grocer by L. Levy &
Co., he enlisted with the 24th Battal-
ion at the outbreak of the Great War,
and served overseas for over five
years.. After his return to Australia
he joined the Mounted Police, and
during, the next eight years was sta-
tioned at Singleton, Dungog and Mer-
riwa. He resigned from the ploice
force and took up a position with
the Farmers Auctioneering Co. in New
Zealand, but, being badly injured in
the earthquake, he returned to Aus-
tralia and took up residence with his
brother, Mr. P. J. Flanagan at "Avon-
dale," Corowa, and until about 12
months ago was employed as a lines-
man of the P.M.G.'s department. He
left his employment and enlisted with
the 2nd A.I.F. and served as a ser-
geant at Broadford and Liverpool
camps until his admission to hospital.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs.
Claire Flanagan, and daughter Mau-
reen, of Singleton,, and also by the
following brothers and sistors: Mes-
srs. P. J. Flanagan (Corowa), John
Flanagan (Sydney) Catherine (Mrs.
W. J. Wallan, Sydney) and Margaret
(Mrs. J. Moran, Orange).
A millitary funeral was held at the
Williamstown cemetery on Monday
last, when the service was conducted
by Rev. F. M. Flanagan, Parish Priest
of Willamstown. The chief mourn-
ers wore his brother, Mr, P. J. Flan-
agan, Brother Celian (Marist, Haw-
thorn) a cousin, and Mrs. F Stewart
(cousin), St, Kilda. The pall-bear-
ers were Privates W. Devereaux, W.
Sawyer, R.E. Church, W. P. Florence,
T. Sheehan and J. A. Cooper, and
coffin-bearers, Privates T. T. Taylor,
J. Barr, F. Wright and C. Spreckley,
all of the 2nd A.I.F., and the A.I.F.
was, represented by Lt. E. H. Rowe,
No. 3 Guard, 12th Garrison Batt.
