Arthur Stanley Toll and sons
Arthur Toll was born in the high country near Melbourne. He changed his name in 1916 to his grandparent's German name and joined the Pioneer Battalion. After his war service he became a brick layer and eventually had three sons and one (or two) daughters.
He joined the RAAF in the 1920's as a corporal and when the second world war was declared he was promoted to Warrant Officer at RAAF base Wagga Wagga and was an engineer/pilot by the end of WW2.
His sons, V155141 Pte. Arthur Courtney TOLL and VX144297 Pte. Eldridge Roy Thomas (Tommy) TOLL served in the second world war and saw action at Kokoda, Lae, and other parts of New Guinea. Tommy was in the Signal troop of the 2/4th Armoured Regiment (tanks).
Arthur's youngest son also attempted to join the RAAF wanting to be a fighter pilot, but he was discovered to have lied about his age.
