25 Sep 1917: Honoured Military Medal, Citation reads:- Before dawn on 25 September 1917 at the Regimental Aid Post North of Polygon racecourse two bearers had gone out to bring in a wounded man, when a heavy shelling commenced. Some time passed and these men did not return so Private Haysom went out to search for them. He did not find them for a considerable time during which he was completely exposed to shell fire. Eventually he found them, and finding they were lost guided them back to AID POST. His action showed great bravery and coolness and probably saved the lives of these three men London Gazette on 14 January 1918, page 846, position 34 Commonwealth of Australia Gazette 23 May 1918 on page 1124 at position 55
