7 Aug 1918: | Honoured Distinguished Conduct Medal, Near Warheton, during a raid 30th Nov/1st Dec 1917 this NCO showed conspicuous bravery and fine leadership. He forced his way through the enemy wire and killed an officer and a man. He then got into the enemy trench, got his bombers together and cleared it. He personally dealt with several enemy dugouts , entering the dugouts with total disregard for personal risk. His determination and offensive spirit was a splendid example to his men, and his during the operation was invaluable. Strength of raiding party, 4 officers and 82 other ranks. "...699 Corporal (later Sergeant) Hector Charles Long (alias Nestor Charles Warwick), 40th Battalion. A carpenter of Hobart, Tasmania, he enlisted on 26 January 1916 and sailed with C Company aboard HMAT Berrima on 1 July 1916. He was killed in action, aged 23, on 28 March 1918.
