DEATH OF CAPTAIN KNYVETT
Noted Queensland Soldier.
The late Captain Reginald Hugh Knyvett, whose death is reported in the United States was a brother of Mr. P. G, Knyvett, police magistrate at Gladstone, and was 31 years of age. He was well known in Gladstone, having delivered fine recruiting addresses on his return in July, last year from Gommecourt, where he was wounded in November, 1916. He enlisted in Melbourne in October, 1914, entering the ranks as a private. He gained his lieutenancy in France, and last year was discharged as unfit for further active service. After  visiting Gladstone he decided to return to the front at his own expense and enlist in the Royal Flying Corps. He went to America, where his war lectures aroused much interest. He was granted a commission as captain, and engaged by the Government of the United States to deliver war lectures throughout the country. Part of the proceeds went to the Red  Cross Society and kindred organisations. He was engaged on a war book at the time of his death, and was also con tributing war articles to 'Scribner's Magazine.' The cause of  death is unknown, but a month ago news was received in Gladstone that he was suffering from an attack, of pleurisy. Deceased was married in the United States to Lilian Maude, niece of Mr. Cyril Maude, actor, and of the late General Maude. There are two brothers serving at the front, Major F. B. Knyvett, now in Mesopotamia, who served in West Africa,  where he was severely wounded, and in Flanders and France, and has received D.S.O. and other decorations; and Company Sergt-Major F. L. Knyvett, now serving in France. The  latter has been on active service since the beginning of the war, and went through the Gallipoli campaign.
