Son of Matthew Sylas Venn and Matilda Venn nee Harding of Pipers River, Tasmania.
Brother of John Henry Venn who was killed in action on 13 June 1918 while serving with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion and is buried in Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Plot VIII, Row A, Grave 2; Matthew Sylias Venn who was killed in action 15 December 1917 and is buried in the Lindenhoek Chalet Military Cemetery. Plot II, Row I, Grave 3; George James Venn who returned to Australia on 29 August 1919 having served with the 2nd Pioneer Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 22 November 1919 aboard HT Aeneas disembarking on 9 January 1920 at Melbourne for onward travel to Tasmania
