William Arthur Thistlethwaite aged 26 years when he enlisted. He was the third child of Arthur Thistlethwaite and Emily Gaynor, and he attended Clear Mountain School. He was living in Strathpine with his wife, Alice Mary Randall when he enlisted on 25 January 1916. His occupation was a fruit grower and farmer. Richard is listed on the 1919 electoral rolls as living at Samsonvale. He had three brothers who enlisted as well, Albert Elihu [995] who was killed, Richard Dickson [5484] and Louis Victor [4790] who returned to Australia.
