Lewis William Frederick Hooper.
Private Lewis William Frederick Hooper, 3381, was an 18 year old Clerk with the Railway when he enlisted on the 16th August 1915. His parents, David and Elizabeth Hooper lived in Alexandra Street, North Ward, and Lewis attended the Central State School and the Townsville Technical College.
Lewis was attached to the 49th Battalion and served in Egypt and France. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in May 1917, and selected for a Commission in the Indian Army. This did not appear to eventuate, as he was with the 49th Battalion when he was killed in action in France on the 25th April 1918. Lewis was buried in the Ribemont Communal Cemetery, France. He was 21 years of age.
