Edward states in his Attestation Paper that he spent 18 months with the Senior Cadets in Geraldton before enlistment.
During his service in Egypt he was admitted to hospital with Malaria. He was also wounded in the face on 19 April 1917, was not considered serious (as listed on his file) however it caused him to lose the sight of his right eye.
Edward married Rita Isabella Prosser in Geraldton, Western Australia on 2 June 1921. They had two children during their marriage. Edward was known as Terry.
