'R.S.S.I.L.A.
WIDE BAY AND BURNETT BRANCH.
MARYBOROUGH, September 11. At the 13th conference of the delegates to the Wide Bay and Burnett branch of the R.S.S.I.L.A., held at Tiaro on Saturday and Sunday, Mr H. R. Richardson (Nanango) was elected president in place of Lt.-Colonel R. Christie who left recently for Kalgoorlie. The resignation of Mr T. H. Danby as district secretary was received, owing to his acceptance to the secretaryship of the Brisbane district.' from The Brisbane Courier 12 Sep 1922 (nla.gov.au)
'PERSONAL.
Mr. T. H. Danby, the new organising secretary of the band, started on his duties on 5th instant. He was originally an artist in England, having studied painting under Professor Hubert von Kerkomer, R. A., and at the Slade School. In 1899 he went to the South African war, in the Duke of Cambridge's Own Imperial Yeomanry, and then went shooting through the "fly country" between the Pungive and Zambesi. After a short stay in England, being bitten by the wanderlust, he came out to Australia in 1903, and spent most of his time prospecting in the various States. In 1915 he enlisted, at Dalby, in Queensland, with the 26th Battalion, and went overseas.
Since his return his walk has been mainly secretarial. He was district
organising secretary for the Wide Bay and Burnett district, and also the South- Eastern (Brisbane) district of the R.S.S.l.L.A., of which district he afterwards was president. At the same time he was president of the Queensland branch of the Professional Musicians' Union. The last year was spent in work as a professional musician in Sydney, and study at the Conservatorium of Music. He is an old friend of Mr. Mulhall, the band master, who induced him to come to Cootamundra, and help in the organising of the band with the view of future contests.' from Cootamundra Herald 17 Jun 1929 (nla.gov.au)
