Biography

Leicester Innes Forbes LEDSHAM was born in 1896 in Christchurch, New Zealand

His parents were Peter LEDSHAM and Eda Margaret FORBES - the family moved to Western Australia about 1911

He was living in Roslyn, Geraldton, Western Australia when he enlisted on 31st July 1916 with the Australian Army - 16th Battalion, 2nd reinforcements - Unit embarked from Fremantle on board HMAT Argyllshire on 9th November 1916

Leicester was Killed in Action on 5th August 1917 in Messines,  Belgium - he is buried in Messines Ridge British Cemetery in Belgium - He is also commemorated on the Australian War Memorial, State War Memorial in Mount Eliza, WA and a Memorial Plaque in Kings Park WA

KILLED IN ACTION.  Private L F Ledsham.  Cable news of the death in action of Private Leicester F Ledsham on August 5 was received in Christchurch recently.   Deceased who was only 21 years of age at the time of his death was a native of New Zealand, being the eldest son of Mr. P. Ledsham formerly of Christchurch and Morven, South Canterbury.  He finished his education at the Waitaki Boys High school.  Six years ago he left New Zealand with his parents to take up land in West Australia and was farming with his father prior to enlisting in the Australian force last year.  He was the grandson of Mr. & Mrs. R Forbes of Christchurch
