On route to the western front Donald disembarked a Cape Town, South Africa on 14 December 1916 due to mumps. Later re-embarked on 6 January 1917 for western front

Commenced return to Australia on 1 April 1919 aboard HT Shropshire disembarking on 16 May 1919 at Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney
