26 Apr 1916: Involvement AIF WW1, Trooper, 603, 9th Light Horse Regiment, ANZAC / Gallipoli, ON the 26/4/1916, the OC 9Th LHR conducted an official enquiry into the circumstances of several missing in action soldiers of the 9LHR. Trooper CAIRNS had been witnessed by SN800 Tpr G. MAXIM, 9LHR, as having taken part in a charge on the 26 or 27 May 1915, 2 miles from Walkers Ridge, Gallipoli. Tpr MAXIM saw Tpr CAIRNS shot in the head and killed. The enquiry found that Tpr CAIRNS had been killed in action. Details in NAA Document attached to Tpr CAIRNS.
