Lieutenant Raymond Alsager Ayrton RFC also had two periods of service with the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade AIF. Raymond Alsager Ayrton enlisted with the 1st Field Artillery Brigade during August 1915. Shortly after transferring to the Royal Flying Corps on the 16 March 1917, Raymond was injured on the 16 May 1917, when training with the 37th Reserve Squadron in England his RE8 aircraft spun at 1500ft, recovered at 50ft and side slipped into the ground. He subsequently transferred back to the AIF on the 30 January 1918, joined the 2nd Field Battery as a 2nd Lieutenant. He finished the war as a Lieutenant, returning to Australia in mid-1919.
