Lieutenant John Royle Taylor, 12th Battalion from Sydney, NSW.

A 27 year old electrical engineer prior to enlisting on 29 August 1914. He embarked for overseas on 18 October 1914 as a Driver with the Headquarters staff from Sydney aboard HMAT Southern.

He served at Gallipoli and on the Western Front and was promoted up through the ranks to Sergeant and then to Second Lieutenant in 23rd January1917 and to Lieutenant on 16th August 1917.

Lt Taylor returned to Australia on 27 September 1919.
