Mrs. E. J. Brown, of Netherton, late of Kaniva, has been notified that her son, Private Norman A. Brown, was killed in action in France. He was born at Hoyles' Plains on February 9,  1888, and enlisted from Netherton, where he carried on a farm for several years with his mother and brother. He took an active part in sport and was a member of the Peake  District Council for two and a half years.
