In the year 1896 of November, Reginald McBride was born from his mother (Teresa Lucy McBride). He was born in Clarence Park, South Australia and lived there over the years. Reginald McBride he was Roman Catholic.
At the age of 18, Reginald McBride enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on May 29th, 1915, in Keswick, South Australia. Reginald McBride was still a student when he was enlisted. Reginald McBride was a 5’9 ½ tall and 15.2lbs. for his appearance he had short brown hair and brown eyes. For Reginald McBride his mother’s name was on the Kin.
On the 27th of October 1915 Reginald McBride and hundreds of men were embarked from Adelaide, South Australia on the HMAT A24 Benalla. The unit Reginald McBride was apart of was the 3rd light horse regiment, 11th reinforcement. The light horse regiment consists of mounted troops who were skilled in cavalry and mounted infantry. The 3rd light horse regiment landed in Egypt between January and May of 1916, and join up with the ANZAC mounted division. The 3rd light horse regiment and the ANZAC were deployed to protect the Nile valley from the pro-Turks. In November the 3rd light horse regiment and Allied crossed to Sinai (Egypt) to take out the Turkish outposts. On November 7th Gaza fell, the Turkish position in southern Palestine collapsed.
25th July 1917, Reginald McBride had recovered from the illness pleurisy. Pleurisy is an illness that can cause sharp chest pain when you breathe. 1st of June 1918 Reginald McBride was promoted to Corporal. However, his health declined in 1918 and he returned to hospital and was sent back to Australia in August.
Reginald McBride was discharged on 4th of November 1918. The reason of his discharge is being medically unfit (mild pleurisy). After his discharge Reginald McBride received the 1914-1915 star issued, British war medal and the victory medal. Reginald had had his name put on three memorials. The memorial places are Adelaide Christian brother’s college, Adelaide Sturt Street Public School and Roseworthy Agricultural College.
After the war Reginald had at least one son (Bill McBride) with his wife. Reginald McBride died at the age of 96 years old on 19th May 1993. His grave is in centennial park, rose bed E16.
