Raymond suffered multiple gunshot wounds at Bullecourt on 15 April 1917. He died of his wounds in a Field Ambulance the next day.
His younger brother, 3645 Pte Ormond Clarence Duffy, 26th Battalion, was killed in action at Pozieres 5 August 1916. Another brother who enlisted with Raymond, 171 Pte Kenneth Duffy, 40th Battalion, returned to Australia 31 October 1917, discharged medically unfit with gunshot wounds to the leg. They were the sons of Nicholas and Mary Duffy, of Tea Tree, Tasmania.
