Died on this date – 12th February…… Archibald William Hull was born on 7th December, 1884 at Boundary Street, Redfern, Sydney, New South Wales.
He married Madeline Matilda Fogarty in 1904 in the district of Redfern, Sydney, NSW. They had the following children – Archibald Sidney William Hull (born 14th January, 1906 at Goodsir Street, Balmain South, Sydney, NSW) & Sidney Norman Hull (born 1907 at St. Peters, Sydney, NSW)
On 20th March, 1917 Archibald William Hull enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (A.I.F.) as a 32 year old, married, Bookseller from Sydney, NSW.
He was transferred to Engineer Reinforcements on 27th April, 1917 as Sapper. Sapper Hull was transferred to Depot Company, Engineer Reinforcements from 14th May, 1917.
Sapper Archibald William Hull, Service number 19534. embarked from Sydney, NSW on HMAT Euripides (A14) on 31st October, 1917 with the Field Companies Engineers – July, 1917 Reinforcements. He was appointed as Voyage Only Corporal on 31st October, 1917.
He disembarked at Devonport, England on 26th December, 1917.
Reinforcements were only given basic training in Australia. Training was completed in training units in England. Some of these were located in the Salisbury Plain & surrounding areas in the county of Wiltshire.
On 26th December, 1917 (Voyage Only) Corporal Archibald William Hull was marched in to No. 3 Camp at Parkhouse, Wiltshire, England from Australia. He reverted to the rank of Sapper.
He was appointed E.D.P. (Extra Duty Pay) Corporal from 27th December, 1917.
E.D.P. (Extra Duty Pay) Corporal Archibald William Hull was marched out from No. 3 Camp at Parkhouse on 18th February, 1918 & was marched in to E.T.D. (Engineers Training Depot) at Brightlingsea on the same day. He reverted to the rank of Sapper on 18th February, 1918.
On 5th May, 1918 Sapper Hull proceeded overseas to France from Brightlingsea. He was marched in to A. G. B. Depot (Australian General Base Depot) at Rouelles, France on 6th May, 1918. Sapper Hull was marched out to 5th Divisional Engineers on 24th May, 1918 & was taken on strength of 14th Field Company Engineers on 29th May, 1918.
He was on Leave to UK from 24th December, 1918 & was to return from Leave on 10th January, 1919.
Sapper Hull was transferred to Administrative Headquarters on 10th January, 1919 from 14th Field Company Engineers.
On 2nd February, 1919 Sapper Hull was sent sick to Hospital. He was admitted to Military Hospital, Endell Street, London with Influenza. He was later reported to be seriously ill (no date recorded).
Sapper Archibald William Hull died at 8.30 am on 12th February, 1919 at Endell Street Military Hospital, London, England from Pneumonia – Influenza.
He was buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery, Surrey, England where around 360 other WW1 Australian War Graves are located.
